Udyam Registration is a free, fully online, and paperless process for registering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India through the official Udyam portal. It has been mandatory for all MSMEs since 1 July 2020.

Additional Eligibility Criteria for Udyam Registration
Apart from meeting the prescribed investment and turnover limits, businesses must also satisfy the following conditions:
The business must be registered and operating in India.
The enterprise must not be formed by splitting up or reconstructing an existing business.

All MSME’s are not required to provide their GST number at the time of Udyam registration. Only businesses that are previously registered under the GST Law should provide GSTIN.

Udyam Registration for Existing Enterprises
All enterprises previously registered under EM–Part II or UAM are required to re-register on the Udyam Registration portal from 1 July 2020 onwards.
Enterprises registered up to 30 June 2020 are reclassified based on the revised MSME criteria notified by the government.
Registrations obtained before 30 June 2020 remain valid only until 31 December 2021.
Enterprises registered with any other MSME authority or organisation must also migrate to Udyam Registration.

As per the notification dated 26 June 2020, all registered MSMEs in India are required to renew their Udyam Registration.
